About Us
Andy Martin has been fishing the rivers, lakes and ocean in Southern Oregon and Northern California his entire life. He grew up in Brookings, Ore., catching salmon and steelhead in the Chetco and Rogue rivers, while spending the summer chasing rockfish and lingcod offshore.
After spending a decade as an award-winning journalist, newspaper editor and publisher, Andy spent two years as the editor-in-chief of Fishing & Hunting News before starting his own sport fishing business, Wild Rivers Fishing. Andy guides full-time on the rivers of Southern Oregon and Northern California, as well as the waters offshore of Brookings. A Coast Guard-licensed captain, Andy is one of the few Brookings guides who can also legally operate up to 200 miles offshore.
During the summers, Andy runs a charter boat in Gustavus, Alaska, taking customers to the world’s best halibut, coho salmon and lingcod fishing. Each season, customers fishing with Andy in land hundreds of halibut topping 100 pounds, as well as six-fish-per-person limits of big coho salmon as well as big king salmon.
Andy is a prolific outdoor writer and regularly contributes to Saltwater Sportsman, Salmon Trout Steelheader, Game & Fish, ESPN Outdoors, Oregon Hunter and Fish Alaska Magazine. He also tests products for major tackle manufacturers and serves on the pro and field staffs for Berkley, Eagle Claw, Abu Garcia, Penn, Pautzke Bait Co., Shakespeare, Pflueger and Worden’s Lures/Yakima Bait.
During the 2008 season in Seward, Andy's customers enjoyed some of the best fishing anywhere in Alaska. In one day, his customers landed seven halibut topping 100 pounds, while up to five barndoors were landed on multiple occasions. Andy guided customers to several of the daily winner prizes in the famous Seward June Halibut Derby.
From late September through March, Andy returns to his home river, the world famous Chetco, in pursuit of fall Chinook salmon and trophy winter steelhead. Andy is one of the few Chetco guides who actually grew up on the river.
Andy provides his customers with quality equipment, safe and comfortable boats and the ultimate fishing adventure on America’s Wild Rivers Coast and in the pristine waters of Alaska.
When he isn’t fishing, Andy enjoys writing, hunting, camping and spending time with his daughter, and is an avid college football fan. He is a popular speaker at Northwest sports and outdoor shows.
