About Wild Rivers Fishing
& Captain Andy Martin

THERE ARE A LOT OF CHOICES WHEN IT COMES TO FISHING GUIDES AND OCEAN CHARTERS IN SOUTHERN OREGON AND NORTHERN CALIFORNIA. SO WHY SHOULD YOU CHOOSE ME?

From trophy salmon and steelhead on the Chetco River to limits of lingcod on the ocean out of Brookings, Andy Martin is one of the most sought-after fishing guides and charter boat captains in Southern Oregon and Northern California.

A full-time, year-round river guide and saltwater charter boat captain, Andy has been passionate about fishing his entire life. Long before he was old enough to have a driver’s license, Andy had his own drift boat while in middle and high school, and spent the summers growing up in Brookings, Oregon, fishing the ocean waters near his home, while the fall and winters were spent fishing the Chetco, Smith, Rogue, Elk and Sixes rivers every chance he had.

Today, Andy owns and operates Wild Rivers Fishing, the premier guide and outfitter service on the Chetco River, as well as Brookingd Fishing Charters LLC, which offers six-pack charter trips out of the Port of Brookings. The company was started when Andy moved back to his hometown of Brookings after spending a decade as an award-winning journalist, newspaper editor and publisher. Andy also spent two years as the editor-in-chief of Fishing & Hunting News before starting Wild Rivers Fishing.

During the fall and winter, Andy guides on his home waters - the world-class salmon and steelhead streams of Southern Oregon and Northern California - and in the summer he captains a saltwater charter boat in Brookings, targeting king salmon, lingcod, halibut and tuna. His clients have caught some of the biggest salmon ever landed on the Chetco, including two kings in the 60-pound-plus class, as well as steelhead over 20 pounds.

A Coast Guard-licensed captain, Andy is one of the few Brookings fishing guides who can also legally operate up to 200 miles offshore. Andy runs trips from his drift boat and jet boat on the Chetco, Rogue, Smith, Klamath, Elk, Sixes, Coos, Umpqua and Coquille rivers during the fall, winter and spring. He also guides in the ocean out of Brookings year round. He is one of just a handful of guides licensed to take customers onto the ocean during the famed “Chetco Bubble Season,” a fishery in October where anglers target trophy salmon off of the mouth of the Chetco River. Andy is also one of a very limited number of guides with a special Forest Service permit for the “Wild and Scenic” section of the Upper Chetco, one of the most productive sections of the river with much less pressure than the lower river because of its limited-entry access for guides. Andy is one of just a few Chetco River guides who actually grew up in Brookings. His local ties and life-long experience fishing the river has contributed to his success as a guide.

WHILE ANDY NOW GUIDES AND RUNS CHARTER TRIPS YEAR ROUND ON THE OREGON COAST, HE SPENT NEARLY 10 YEARS AS A GUIDE AND CHARTER BOAT CAPTAIN IN ALASKA, GUIDING ON THE WORLD FAMOUS KENAI RIVER AND CAPTAINING CHARTER BOATS IN SEWARD, ALASKA AND GLACIER BAY IN SOUTHEAST ALASKA.

In Alaska, Andy earned a reputation as one of the state’s best trophy halibut captains. His customers have landed halibut topping 400 pounds, with several fish between 350 and 380 pounds, and countless halibut between 100 and 200 pounds. Andy also was one of the most successful ocean salmon skippers, often limiting his customers out on kings well before the other charter boats.

A prolific outdoor writer, Andy regularly contributes to Western Outdoor News, Saltwater Sportsman, Salmon Trout Steelheader, Game & Fish, ESPN Outdoors, Oregon Hunter and Fish Alaska Magazine. He also tests products for major tackle manufacturers and serves on the pro and field staffs for Yakima Bait Co., Alumaweld Boats, Mercury Marine, and Pautzke Bait Co. He also works closely with G.Loomis and Shimano.

Andy provides his customers with quality equipment, safe and comfortable boats and the ultimate fishing adventure on America’s Wild Rivers Coast.

When he isn’t fishing, Andy enjoys writing, hunting, camping and spending time with his family, and is an avid college football fan. He is a popular speaker at Northwest sports and outdoor shows.
